New Online Tax Account receives registrations from more than 1,500 Hackney Citizens in just eight months
Hackney Council is receiving more than 25 registrations every week from residents and businesses seeking a secure electronic account to view online balances, statements and demands for Council Tax and Business Rates.
Live since August 2006, registrations total more than 1,500.
The Council expects to register a further 900 users by the end of 2007 and move closer to its goal of registering five per cent of its 100,000 households over the next two to three years.
An online account enables users to view and interrogate balances and statements, check personal payment history, installment plans and payments received.
“Over the last two years more and more residents and businesses have been wanting to interact with the Council electronically,” says Cllr Jamie Carswell, Deputy Mayor of Hackney and Cabinet Member for Finance. “Take-up of online accounts is growing steadily, and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that the Council is high performing and efficient.”
Having viewed and interrogated balances and statements online and confident that demands and outstanding amounts are correct, users can also pay online through the e-presentment platform.
The Council intends to continue developing its online service and offer residents the chance to receive Council Tax bills electronically via email. This will further improve efficiency.
The Council has installed Gandlake Citizen’s Account e-presentment platform. Taking just three months to install, the platform is vendor-managed and does not require software licenses or ongoing support.
