Haringey Presents Council Tax and Business Rates Balances and Statements Online

Local registration, authentication and enrolment overcomes GC Register cancellation

Citizens and businesses in Haringey London Borough can now access a secure electronic account to view and interrogate Council Tax and Business Rates balances, full account statements and demands online.

The service is built using Gandlake Citizen’s Account e-presentment platform.

Due to the uncertainty and delays surrounding Government Connect’s GC Register project, Haringey decided to use Gandlake’s standard service for citizen registration, authentication and enrolment.

The service enables citizens to answer Council Tax and Business Rates queries online such as personal payment history and instalment plans as well as checking payments received.

Available at any time of day or night, 365 days per year; the service will encourage citizens to move to an online self-service environment and away from expensive walk-in, telephone and paper based channels.

The service will reduce the number of telephone calls the authority receives for smaller enquiries such as account balances, payments received and instalment plans.

The reduction in telephone enquires will reduce call waiting times for those citizens that do telephone the authority and also ensure Customer Services staff are free to resolve more complex queries and issues.

“A number of our customers including Haringey London Borough Council wanted to use Government Connect’s GC Register to register and enrol citizens for local authority services and for the provision of Government Gateway IDs,” says John Gandley, Managing Director, Gandlake. “At the same time our customers did not want to delay delivering important services such as online balances and statements to their citizens whilst they waited for GC register to become available. It is important then that we deliver a solution that allows local authorities to deliver online services immediately – with or without GC Register.

“By installing Gandlake Citizen’s Account, citizens can now register, receive authentication and enrol for Council Tax and Business Rates balances, statements and demands online locally through Gandlake,” says John Richardson, Chief Technical Architect, Haringey London Borough Council.

The authority-wide, non-silo approach of the Gandlake platform means that up to 32 additional council back office services are candidates for web enablement.
